Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl Celebrates Ten Year Anniversary

The Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl, along with ESPN Regional Television, Inc. (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN, mark the 10 year anniversary of the bowl with the naming of the Ten Year Anniversary Team.  This year’s game, played on Saturday, Dec. 24, at 3 p.m. (HST) will be televised nationally on ESPN, featuring Southern Miss against Nevada.

In nine short years, the Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl has produced very memorable games and performances, including four NCAA Bowl Records.

  • 2006 – Jason Rivers - MOST PASS RECEIVING YARDS, 308—Hawaii (41) vs. Arizona St. (24)
  • 2007 – Chris Johnson - MOST ALL-PURPOSE YARDS GAINED, (Must Have at Least One Reception or Return) 408—Chris Johnson, East Carolina (41) vs. Boise St. (38) (223 rushing, 32 receiving, 153 kickoff returns)
  • 2008 – HIGHEST KICKOFF RETURN AVERAGE (Min. 3 Returns) 44.3—Notre Dame (49) vs. Hawaii (21) (3 for 133)
  • 2010 - MOST KICKOFF RETURNS, 11—Hawaii (35) vs. Tulsa (62)

The Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl is known for high scoring football with four of the previous games tied for third place in the NCAA Bowl Record Book for Touchdowns

From these memorable games and performances, nine players were voted to the Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl Ten Year Anniversary Team by fan voting.  An additional seven players were picked by a panel of sportswriters and Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl Staff.

Fans can purchase Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl tickets online at eTicketHawaii.com and print them on their home computer. They can also visit the Aloha Stadium or Stan Sheriff Center Box Offices (Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Hawai’i Standard Time) or call 808-548-BOWL during the same hours.

Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium, the largest outdoor arena in the state of Hawai‘i, features a new synthetic playing surface and is home to the University of Hawai‘i’s Warrior football team and hosts a multitude of other events, including the Hawaiian Islands Invitational Soccer Tournament and the NFL Pro Bowl.
