2008 Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl Set For WAC vs. Pac-10 Match Up
HONOLULU – Kickoff for the 2008 Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl has been set for Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 3 p.m. (HST) at Aloha Stadium, Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl Executive Director David Matlin announced today. The bowl game, owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television, will feature a team from the Pac-10 Conference against a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The University of Hawai‘i Warrior football team will receive the automatic bid if it is bowl eligible.
“We are pleased to return to our Christmas Eve tradition,” Matlin said. “We’re very excited about the Pac-10 vs. WAC match-up, and look forward to ESPN featuring two quality teams in a prime time slot on national television.”
This will be the fourth time the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl will be played on Christmas Eve, the first since 2006 when its biggest in-stadium attendance of 40,623 watched Hawai‘i defeat Arizona State, 41-24, behind record-setting performances by Hawai‘i quarterback Colt Brennan (passed for a school-record 559 yards and five TDs) and wide receiver Jason Rivers (14 receptions for an NCAA bowl record 308 yards and two TDs). The match-up also marked the only Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl that that featured teams from the WAC and Pac-10 conferences.
For the third straight year, ticket prices for the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl will remain the same. Individual tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, July 28th. Corporate tickets are on sale now by calling 808-523-3688.
“We are very aware and sensitive to the economic landscape and the value of the entertainment dollar,” Matlin said. “We want to keep the prices steady and continue to make it affordable for the fans since they have supported the game since it began here in Hawai‘i in 2002.”
