Matlin Named Executive Director of Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl
HONOLULU – David Matlin has been promoted to Executive Director of the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl, Pete Derzis, ESPN Regional Television Senior VP and General Manager, announced today.
“I am delighted to announce that David Matlin will serve as our Executive Director of the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.” Derzis said. “He has played an integral role in building the game into the showcase it has become for the State of Hawai‘i.”
Matlin, 43, is the second Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl Executive Director and replaces Jim Donovan who was recently named Athletics Director at the University of Hawai‘i.
“I am thrilled and thankful to have the opportunity to build on the solid foundation that Pete Derzis, Jim Donovan, and Hugh Yoshida (Chair of the Executive Committee) have established,” Matlin said. “They have all been valuable mentors to me, and I look forward to continuing to work with all three of them in my new capacity.”
Matlin served as Director of Operations for the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl since it began in 2002.

They have set the model for superior customer service and have a great understanding of the local market. Matlin gained experience in sales, marketing, finance, information technology, electronic ticket operations and event management while working for the Houston Astros Baseball Club, Arts Center Enterprises (dba The Majestic Theatre), the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Athletic Department, m2c, Inc. and ESPN Regional Television.
With more than two decades of collegiate and professional sports and entertainment marketing and management experience, Matlin has been involved in a myriad of special events and sporting projects including, more than 700 major league baseball games; the MLB League Championship Series and World Series; 25th Houston Astrodome Anniversary; Miss Universe Pageant, Howie Mandel and Ray Charles concerts; NIT Basketball Tournament; Men’s Volleyball Final Four; The Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl; and the Broadway Musicals “Annie” and “Annie Get Your Gun”.
A graduate of the University of Michigan, Matlin also holds an MBA from the University of Hawai‘i. He was born in Honolulu and his father, Lewis Matlin, served as General Manager of the Hawai‘i Islanders in 1963 & 1964. Matlin and his wife Dana, live in Honolulu with their two children, Kisa (13), and Ross (10).
